The Broad Humor Film Festival will unspool
June 30-July 2, 2006
December 28, 2005 – LOS ANGELES - The BROAD HUMOR FILM
FESTIVAL, a community film event “celebrating and embodying
the laughter of women” has announced its inaugural weekend,
to be held June 30 – July 2, 2006 in Venice Beach with the
Electric Lodge serving as the primary venue.
The founders of this niche film festival dedicated to comedic
films written and directed by women are Susan di Rende and Kaat
Cleenewerck. The primary goal of the festival is to highlight
all the ways that women make other women and men laugh and to
celebrate their power to do so. Of equal importance is the opportunity
for the filmmakers, writers and theatergoers with a love of the
well-crafted laugh to come together and be recognized by one's
true peers.
Over the course of the 3-day weekend (June 30 – July 2),
there will be film screenings of both comedy short and feature
films made by women, an opening night gala and a closing night
with an awards presentation. In addition, Broad Humor will organize
a screenplay competition, panels and workshops, and a live comedy
night. The Broad Humor Film Festival will also offer a LUNCHEON
MIXER, an active and unique networking event.
The Broad Humor Film Festival will open its submissions on January
3, 2006, in collaboration with Withoutabox.
